Any better ideas, though, and I'm all ears. The second your pointer is over the bar, command-tab is back. So to get out of Windows, you no longer have to point at the top of the screen and wait for the toolbar to drop, which does take a non-trivial amount of time. Interestingly, if you so much as hover your mouse over the minibar, your alt-tab that was command-tab becomes command-tab again. Now you've got this guy sitting on the left side (or wherever you finally position it) of your screen. I would like the command+tab switcher UI to follow the opaque (main) menu bar as it did in the past versions of OS X, or allow the user to choose which behavior they want.
MAC COMMAND TAB FULL
I'm not sure what's going on there.)īut if you combine this with the full screen minibar under the View menu, you get closer to being in business. In Mavericks, the command+tab switcher UI is displayed on the screen where the dock was last displayed (I use a hidden dock). (Note that this checkbox, above, seems to "check itself" every so often. Once you're in, the only way I see to get out without any other change is to put your mouse at the top of the winow, wait for the Fusion menubar to appear, then move back into OS X.
MAC COMMAND TAB WINDOWS
But now Windows is, indeed, a black hole. To search for any file or application on your Mac, press ctrl+ Space to open Spotlight search. Use the arrow keys to change the applications. To switch between apps using just your keyboard, hold Command + Tab to open the App Switcher.
MAC COMMAND TAB MAC OS X
If you unclick "Enable Mac OS X Keyboard Shortcuts" in Preferences for VMWare Fusion (so command-, instead of Virtual Machine settings), you can "swallow" the Mac command-tab and, in my situation, preserve the alt-tab. To scroll up the page, press Option + the upwards arrow. I don't mind if there's no easy way to Command-Tab back into OS X from a VM.Īfter lots of frustration, I've got a possible compromise solution.

I was wondering if it was possible to change the keys that open the command-tab box, and also remap the control-tab key combo. I want to remap the modifier keys to be as 'Windows-keyboard-like' as possible. I'd like to maintain the fullscreen Windows rather than swap to Unity. I really love my Mac, but I hate how it destroys my muscle memory from the Windows keyboard I use at work. "Command-Tab" still cycles me into OS X apps when invoked from a VM. Neither does what I'd intended them to do. I've tried setting up keyboard profiles like the one below, and like the one below minus the explicit alt-tab mapping. (So, obviously, I'd also like my "option" key work as my Windows key in the VMs.) I'd like to have the command button from OS X map to Alt in my VMs, so that my keyboard works as a standard MS style keyboard in Windows. Now the Alt key maps to the Command key in OS X and Alt-Tab cycles Mac apps. I use Keyboard Prefs to swap Option and Command and I'm done.

I want to have Alt on my Windows keyboard map to the OS X command button. Option-Command-T Show or hide the toolbar when a single tab is open in the current Finder window. Shift-Command-T Show or hide a Finder tab. Command-T Show or hide the tab bar when a single tab is open in the current Finder window. When you use this keyboard shortcut, you can still use your trackpad or mouse to click on any app you’d like.I use VMWare fullscreen, and currently spend much if not most of my day programming in Windows. Command-R Show the original file for the selected alias. I didn’t realize what I’d done until I repeated it by mistake again some other time.īut that is my Tip: While still holding down the Command key, whether you’ve hit Tab once or a dozen times, moving the mouse will let you dynamically highlight ANY of the app icons filling the screen! All you have to do is get to the right one and release Command. Then I guess one day I must have been going too fast for my own good and didn’t even let go of the mouse while I was Command-Tab switching, and I saw the highlighted app icon go the wrong way altogether. Checkout these examples: Open URL in new tab open -new -a 'Google Chrome' -args '' Open URL in new window open -new -a 'Google Chrome' -args -new-window ''. All the time! But as handy as that feature is compared to reaching for the mouse or trackpad, I’ve been frustrated at times when I have too many programs open to quickly switch to the one I want. Ever been in your terminal and wanted to open a new chrome tab (or window), without actually switching to chrome Well, it’s possible. I use Command-Tab all the time to switch between open applications.
